Houston Hair Loss Treatment
Houston Thyroid and Endocrine Specialists, Dr. Diana Desai and Dr. Cristina Dumitru, are proud to introduce our cutting-edge PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) treatment for hair loss to the Katy, Bellaire, and surrounding Houston areas! This innovative treatment harnesses the power of your body’s own healing properties to stimulate hair growth and restore confidence. By concentrating the growth factors in your blood, our PRP therapy promotes revitalization of hair follicles, leading to thicker, healthier hair. With minimal downtime and impressive results, it’s a safe and effective option for those experiencing hair thinning or loss.
What is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment and how does it work?
The PRP therapy process at Houston Thyroid and Endocrine Specialists involves drawing blood from a patient like any other normal lab draw, spinning the blood down, and separating out the part of the plasma that has a very high concentration of platelets.
Platelets are important in clotting, but also in wound healing because they contain hundreds of growth factors. Once the platelet rich plasma is generated, it is then injected back into the same patient's scalp, a process known as an autologous injection. The growth factors in your own plasma work to stimulate the natural growth factors present in the skin and hair follicles.
Is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment right for my hair thinning or hair loss?
Your doctor will evaluate your current medical history and symptoms to determine if this is a correct treatment for you.
A physical exam and labs to evaluate your thyroid and other hormone levels may be needed prior to the PRP treatment.
What should I expect during the PRP treatment?
If you and your doctor determine that PRP is the right choice for you, you will relax in a comfortable chair while they draw a small sample of blood from your arm. This sample is then placed in a centrifuge to separate the Platelet Rich Plasma from the rest of your blood.
Your doctor will then inject the PRP into specific areas of your scalp just beneath the skin, promoting cell regeneration and encouraging hair regrowth over time. Overall, the procedure is relatively quick with minimal discomfort. Best of all, there is no downtime or surgery with PRP treatment!
Does insurance cover PRP treatment?
Unfortunately insurance does not cover PRP treatment. However, the initial work up for the physical exam and labs to evaluate why you are experiencing hair loss or thinning can be covered by insurance if an endocrine diagnosis is found. Please be sure to check our current insurance list to see if we are in network prior to your appointment.
Studies show improvement of hair loss after three monthly PRP sessions. We recommend three monthly sessions and a fourth session six months after. Our treatments are competitively priced at $750 per session. You may purchase a package deal of four treatment sessions at $2500.
