Weight changes in prediabetes

Prediabetes can lead to changes in body weight

Weight fluctuations can be both a sign and symptom of prediabetes.  Weight gain can cause insulin resistance, which in turn leads to frequent urination and sugar-loss.  This results in a loss of calories. Prediabetes and diabetes also keep sugar from reaching the body’s cells, which can induce hunger and weight loss. Risk factors for prediabetes, like poor nutrition, poor sleep and stress can also cause weight to fluctuate. Weight fluctuations can be both a sign and symptom of prediabetes

  • If you have recently experienced rapid weight changes, contact your doctor to discuss
  • The earlier prediabetes is diagnosed, the sooner treatment can begin.
  • Early treatment of prediabetes can reverse the diabetes mellitus process.
